Goals of the Friends
The goal of the Friends is to support, coordinate and enhance the activities of the Library and to stimulate and promote good library service in the community by doing the following:
- Working in cooperation with the librarians and the library trustees in support of the library
- Maintaining an association of persons interested in good library service
- Assisting in development, promotions and completion of library services, programs and community services
- Soliciting gifts, bequests, endowments and other financial contributions above and beyond the library’s annual budget
- Acting as liaison between the community and the library, and increasing public awareness of the library resource
Examples of the Friends support:
- Sponsorship of programs for all ages throughout the year.
- Purchase of passes to several museums, and partial reimbursement of admission to New England museums.
- Purchase of digital content for the library.
- Annual fundraisers including the Annual Appeal in early June, and the Pancake Breakfast in July.
Membership
Membership to the Friends of the Abbott Library is open to all individuals and families interested in the purposes of the organization.
In addition, there are opportunities to donate your time to events such as the Pancake Breakfast.

Annual Meeting
The Friends of the Abbott Library hold their annual meeting each October. Open to the public, this event consists of a brief meeting followed by a fun activity to thank the community for their support. The following is a list of Friends of the Abbott Library’s activities.
- The Friends of the Abbott Library sponsor a Pancake Breakfast each summer, around the Fourth of July. All proceeds from this fun event benefit the Abbott Library. Held in conjunction with the Board of Trustees Book Fair, these two events provide an opportunity to show your support for Abbott Library.
- 2026 – Mini-Golf inside the Abbott Library ** Coming October 22, 2026 **
